The Shop Our Story Contact

For the reader who gets lost in a good book — and found in the conversation about it.

Every other reading community is built around the book. Keight Reads is built around the reader. The books are just how we find each other.

My Story

Some families pass down recipes.
Mine passed down a passion for reading.

My family has held library cards in the small town of Old New Castle, Delaware for five generations. A town founded in 1651, before this country had a name, that still has quaint cobblestone streets. This is my family's library — and my passion for reading started in this small, historical town.

My mother had a saying she shared whenever one of my sisters or I would interrupt her while she was reading: "My book doesn't have commercials." An inference to the short intermission between television shows — and a definitive distinction between that and the way a reader immerses themselves into another world entirely. It said everything about who she was as a reader, and it planted something in me. That identity doesn't begin with a book. It begins in the blood. It was her passion, and the quiet fierceness of that one statement, that first gave me the idea for a gift shop built entirely around the reader. Not the title. Not the genre. The person.

History, family, and voracious reading are woven into the threads of my family's story — so the only name that made sense was one my own children suggested. Honoring two generations of all girls, each named beginning with a K. Eight in total. Eight K's — as in Keight.

There are two recent additions to the family. We cannot wait to watch them get their own library cards for the first time — knowing what that card has meant to every generation before them.

Every saying in this catalog was written for the reader who has always known exactly who they are. The kind who has a book in every room and a TBR that is not a list so much as a life plan.

From our family of readers to yours.
